Wing
ZERO. The Mobile Suit that never
should have been. The Wing ZERO is
actually the original collaboration of all
five Gundam Scientists before each went
their separate ways to build their own
Gundams. The brilliance of all five is
there, but the power they gave to Wing ZERO,
particularly the powerful ZERO System, was
just too much. Though they trashed the
idea of building it, they couldn't let it go
to waste, could they?
Instuctor
H, the tutor of Quatre Winner, hid the
designs away safely inside the Winner family
computers, until one day...
In
Episode 21, "Grief-Stricken Quatre,"
we see Quatre go through the pain of losing
his father ( as well as the loyalty of most
of the citizens of his colony ) to OZ
forces. In pain, Quatre seeks
vengeance and finds the plans for the Wing
ZERO, it's unclear what kind of two-day
delivery they have for a Buster Cannon about
as powerful as a Super Nova, but Quatre got
Wing ZERO built, and quick.
Quatre
takes the ZERO and destroys whatever OZ-controled
colony he can find with one shot a
piece. That might seem all nice and
dandy, but this isn't Quatre. Quatre
is known for his peaceful attitude.
What gives?
The
ZERO System makes it so a pilot no longer
has to think. All the pilot has to do
is think of an objective and the ZERO System
then builds on that objective, making sure
it gets compleated down to teh dirtiest
deed. This is what we see with Quatre.
Many
people pilot the Wing ZERO throughout the
series - Zechs, Quatre, Trowa, Madman
#3. But Heero is the rightful pilot,
one of the few who actually masters the ZERO
System and can use Wing ZERO to its full
extent without going insane.
Wing
ZERO is one of the two most powerful Mobile
Suits in the series, rivaled only by Epyon.
Its weapons include a Twin Buster Cannon,
which can be used separately or combined, a
Beam Saber ( surprise, surprise! ), as well
as speed that rivals the Tallgeese and a
super-powerful shield.
Wing
ZERO plays a prevalent role in the final
battle, when Wing ZERO is the only Mobile
Suit that can stop Zechs from dropping the
Libra on Earth and successfully blowing the
falling battleships into oblivion.
Of
all the Mobile Suits in the series, Wing
ZERO is the only one that touches every
aspect of the series. Of course, not
too many other piloting systems make their
pilots go insane.
